Read This if You Want to Learn Why a Brief Isolation Period is Necessary for Inner Healing
(Decoding The Dark Night of the Soul and the Hermit)
2020 was like poetic justice in my mind. Around the world, people were forced into a period of isolation from the societies, cultures and even families that they knew so well.
It was like the universe and the collective unconscious knew that we all needed to reckon with reality deeply and get all our priorities straight.
In every great film and novel, the protagonist (the main character) experiences something called “the dark night of the soul”.
It’s a period where after efforts to achieve some superficial goal, we are either exhausted or forced to recognize the futility in it.
We now see how our egos have caused more problems than they’ve solved. And now we have to truly reflect inwardly.
In the Tarot, the Hermit card represents this experience. The card art shows an older man (his age symbolizing maturation) who is clothed in a monk’s robe.
He is alone at night holding a rod or staff planted into the Earth, which represents grounding.
