The magic wands are a theme in fantasy films. Disney is known for their fairy godmothers and evil queens who with a flick of the wrist manifest all sorts of mystical happenings. Every reincarnation of Sabrina the Witch and every fairy fantasy uses those infamous wands. And without question, we know that when we see a fictional, waving wand, something will be manifested, seemingly out of thin air.
In the craft, witches use small branches in their rituals to signify an intention to achieve a goal. or to receive a wished for item. Even in the world monarchies, septors represented the weilding of power or the ability to execute within the kingdom.
Star Wars Jedi masters, trained in arts of mental and energy prowess use sword like wands called light sabers. Though they are commonly used for protection in battle, they also signify where their energy radiates. They vibrate a color based on the lower or higher chakra or frequency that they vibrate on.
