(A short story explaining how all 4 Tarot suits affect and are influenced by each other)
The penthouse was filled with warm voices, soft music and the tinkling of wishful wine glasses. The sparkle of the city’s night skies blanketing the architecture of downtown lent itself to the backdrop of the condo’s purposeful decor.
“I see the fire on your greens isn’t low enough,” Ain’ Mag purred judgmentally at the granite kitchen bar.
Kaleza rushed to the stove to turn down the heat on the large, metal pot, rolling her eyes inside of her head. She had been up since 5:30am due her Grandmami’s twin sister, Ain’ Mag, volunteering her to host the family’s annual June dinner.
It was Juneteenth, a southern holiday celebrating the freeing of many slaves, 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was enacted.
“Oh my baby can cook some greens nah. You just sit over there and hush Mag,” commanded Grandmami, swiveling around in her bar stool, adjusting her golden wig.
Jermaine, Kaleza’s new husband, smiled at her before picking up his fussy, 3 year old step daughter, Roxette, who had been a bit agitated from hunger. He walked into the kitchen where Kaleza was standing in frustration, wiping sweat from her forehead.
