(…and what men can learn from him.)

NBC / The Office

Dwight K. Schrute, also known as Assistant “to the” Regional Manager, also known as Recyclops, also known as Lackawanna Volunteer Sheriff’s Deputy, was the real MVP of the show.

When I started watching the series back around 2012 or so, he started off simply being the funniest character on the show. His intensity, attention to law and order and obedience to hierarchy were insane.

He made it easy for Jim’s well orchestrated pranks to roll off well and to not be taken serious by the rest of the staff.

My opinion of him shifted every season. The more deeply I became immersed in the series and the inter-dramas, the more I started to see his value, respect him… be attracted to him even.

After approximately 9,986,000 binges of the entire 9 season series, I realize that Dwight really was the most brilliant thinker and leader in The Office.

Dwight worked his ass off, out of passion.

He was one of those rare characters who loved his job.

He was obsessed with sales, leading the department in transactions that kept the struggling paper company in business.
